Resolved Question: Are you signing away your rights to the Home Owners Association when you move to a place with one?

Background: I live in Oceanside, California and I am 18, Republican and not a homeowner, but I have some things I want to clarify. It sounds like the obvious answer is yes, but I have heard of many instances where they restrict certain things that should be protected in the Bill of Rights or have already been decided through the use of court cases. For example, If I flew the Russian flag in front of my house, could the HOA require me to take it down? Could they come onto my property and take it down if I don't do it? What about If I parked a moped inside a shed in my backyard? Do they have the right to tell me I cant store it in there? Again, if I refuse to do so, can they go onto my property and confiscate it? In this context, "they" doesn't necessarily mean the people running the place. I am being really extreme here, but I just want to see that there is a pattern. Is it fair to say that this is a form of Elite Class Theroy? I am unfamiliar with it all, where can I go to research more information? If you don't mind, I would like you to state your credentials.
