Voting Question: What will you do to help homeowners who timely pay their mortgage but are under water - no fault of their own.?

I have been diligently paying my mortgage on my modest home in Oceanside California for 10 years. Three years ago, I had over $150,000 in equity and now I'm under water by $50,000. It would take me 10 more years of mortgage payments to just be even with the value of my home. I've been teaching high school math for 23 years, in the last 5 years my income has been stagnant and I will be retiring in 4 years. I've worked since I was 17 years old and paid my own way through college. I got a teaching job right after receiving my credential. I've worked hard my whole life and went into teaching because I felt called to the profession. I never had a dream of becoming rich. My dream was to work hard, help others and provide for my family. I can't help my children through college, they have had to take out loans. But I'm concerned that when they graduate, they will have debt and no job prospects. I don't want to be on this site. No bank would give out a loan for a home that is valued at $50,000 less than the selling price, so why should I not be helped out. Thank God Obama appointed a director for the Consumer Protection Bureau during the congressional recess. The economy is in the tank because of greed and dishonesty of the ones at the top. I don't believe that republicans care about anyone but themselves and don't have empathy for their neighbor unless they look, act, and vote the same as themselves. I don't need or care to illicit responses from the no nothings on this site.... Read More »
